Lakeside Promise Ice-Out Raffle
What is ICE-OUT?
In New Hampshire's lakes region it is a long standing tradition that signifies open water and the start of much anticipated boating season. When I said long standing, I wasn't exaggerating.
They have been collecting data on the official ice-out date since 1887.
Official ice-out is determined when the Mount Washington Cruise Ship can navigate to all five ports on Lake Winnipesaukee; Alton Bay, Weirs Beach, Center Harbor, Meredith, and Wolfboro. Dave Emerson of
Emerson Aviation
declares it so after viewing the open water from his plane. Now that sounds like the "funnest" official job I've ever heard of.
Cast your vote to win $50 cash
Here is your chance to predict the official ice-out date for 2010. The person with the closest guess will receive a check from Lakeside Promise for $50. If there is a tie I will randomly choose one winner.
Here are some clues. The earliest ice-out date recorded was on March 29, 1921; the latest being May 12, 1888. For all data visit the
official ice-out website
.
