NH Vacation Rental on Sunrise Lake, Middleton NH - Robin Clapp (508)622-1464

This is our March 2007 edition travel newsletter written for our vacation rental guests traveling to New Hampshire lakes region to enjoy a wonderful vacation. If you are looking for a place to stay in the lakes region of New Hampshire, please take a look at our NH Vacation Rental.

Spring Fishing on Sunrise Lake

Spring fishing on Sunrise Lake is terrific. Sunrise Lake is a 256 acre, river fed, damn controlled, shallow (6-12 feet) rocky to sandy bottom lake. The water is very clear, the lake bed offers lots of structure and there are plenty of small coves and inlets which hold lots of fish.

Starting in late April the smallmouth bass come up from the depths to begin their spawn. Site fishing smallmouth beds can be explosive. The beds are found in the rocky shoals around jutting peninsulas, rocky shallows, and on drop-offs around the two sandbars. These fish guard their beds exhaustively and will pick up most lures landed in the bed to move it away. Watch for the pickup, see the line go slack, reel in the slack, set the hook and hold on. The term smallmouth shouldn’t be misinterpreted…small mouth…big fight! These guys are a lot of fun to catch.

Later in the spring the largemouth bass begin their spawn, and are just as aggressive in protecting their beds as their smaller cousins. I’ve found most of the largemouth beds tucked a little further under cover, in the coves and inlets or in slightly deeper water tucked against large structures. The largemouth bass are not as numerous, and I’ve often wondered if the smallmouths are exhibiting a bit of revenge for the naming convention by consuming some of the largemouth fry?

Getting around the lake isn’t difficult. Be watchful for the rocks and enjoy! Take a kid fishing with you and watch the glint of addiction in their eye when they catch their first bass! My kids love it. – Christopher Clapp

A Day Trip to Storyland

Storyland
Route 16 in Glen NH
(603)383-4186
Storyland Glen NH

Some of you may not realize how close we are to Storyland in Glen, NH and just how easy it is to get there from our vacation home in Middleton. In fact it is more than just a quick trip up route 16; it is also a beautifully scenic ride as well.

I would put aside an hour to make the trip up to Glen. Simply get right back on route 16 and head north toward North Conway. Storyland is actually on route 16 just 6 miles past North Conway. Turn right at the junction of route 16 and 302 where there is a Dairy Queen and Irving Gas Station. Storyland is right around the corner on the right hand side. It’s that easy!

I’ve brought my twins there and it couldn’t have been easier. Of course the boys loved the storybook characters and fantasy world, but Storyland is also parent friendly. Strollers are free. Bathrooms are numerous and clean and include nursing areas. There is a train that brings you from here to there so you can cut back on all that theme park walking. And they allow you to bring in your own food. We brought in our wagon and pulled it around providing a place for the cooler and for the boys to rest.

I looked up the rates and dates for 2007. This year the opening weekends are May 26 - 28 and June 1 - 3, 8 - 10, and 15 - 17. Park hours are 9AM to 5PM and the admission is $19/person. Daily operation begins June 18 and runs through the summer. Park hours during this timeframe are 9AM to 6PM and the admission is $23/person. Those 3 and under are always free. – Robin Clapp

Lakeside Promise Latest Developments

Guest Discount

We have had many of our guests come back a second, third and sometimes fourth time. Thank you for continuing to be our guest, we love to have you. As always we offer an 8% discount September to June and 5% discount on vacations in July and August.

Vacation Reservations Page

I have received some feedback on our website that it has grown so much that it can be overwhelming and hard to find things. So in an attempt to simplify our site, I have added a “Vacation Reservations” page with steps to follow when making a reservation. You will also find a cool new tool there called the “rental rate calculator”. It calculates the rate and provides availability from the dates you type in. Tell me what you think?

Now Accepting Credit Cards

We have decided to accept credit cards in 2007. So if you would like to book a vacation and it seems a little last minute, don’t worry, with a fax machine and a credit card it can easily be done. Winter came let this year; there is still time to book a March vacation!

As always if you have any topics you would like me to cover in the upcoming newsletters, just send me an email. Hope you all have a happy and healthy 2007.

Sincerely,
Christopher and Robin Clapp
